It takes a lot
to be a musician.

Specialist online psychotherapy for musicians.

Let’s get your life and your

music

back on track.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Your life— your music— feels heavy. You’ve spent months— maybe even years feeling ‘off’ and you’re ready to get to the bottom it.
  • Sure, call yourself a musician– you’re just not sure who that person is anymore
  • You’ve done everything you were ‘supposed to do’ to ‘make it’, only to realise you’re still feeling unfulfilled, dissatisfied and empty
  • You’re struggling to process painful past experiences and you’re ready to move forward with healing and clarity

The good news is

Chatting about your musicality (and everything in between) in your therapy sessions can be a key part of your recovery (even if your music feels like one of the biggest places you feel stuck and uninspired).

Therapy is a place where you can let go of the masks you wear to be the perfect, high-functioning artist and explore what it means to be human.

Welcome. I am

Jessica

I combine my work as a therapist of Transactional Analysis (TA) psychotherapy  with having a professional career as a musician/performer/teacher for 25+ years. I believe deeply in the power of reconnecting to your own musicianship as a way to heal.

You’ll never have to explain the pressure of upcoming auditions, album releases, social media pressures, feeling ‘practice guilt’, securing the right gigs, financial worries and the stress of trying to look like you have it all together.  I will understand the things you’re dealing with in a very real way because I’ve also walked this (at times, painful) road myself.

Specialities

Depression

On the inside you feel anxious, sad, unsure, and overwhelmed… like the mask that might slip at any moment. You know that something in the past is affecting you, but you aren’t sure what to do about it. You’ve tried moving forward on your own. Maybe you even have thought that achieving more might have the answer for your sadness, but deep down you know it’s more than another accolade under your belt that you need in order to break free from his hopeless, dark space. It may seem helpless now but you can find your relief.

Low Self-Esteem

There is a reason why you have gotten to where you are today: Because you are driven, intelligent and a committed human who wants to share your art with the world.  You are the picture of success.  But on the inside? When you’re honest with yourself you actually feel like an imposter, even when you are super-qualified for the work you do. I can help you find that quiet confidence that exists inside of you (even if it’s been on the back-burner for a while).

Trauma

Maybe you feel like you are living each day on autopilot, going through the motions of living— but without really feeling connected to what’s happening. Maybe you feel numb, have compartmentalised your trauma, and have buried it deep within you where it remains unhealed. Maybe you know that something significant traumatic happened , but you can’t quite name it, just yet. You're not in this alone. With time, supportive therapy, and self-compassion, you can heal from trauma and live a full and meaningful life.

Musical Burnout

You’ve done ‘whatever it takes’ to be the best musician you can be. Working 80-hour weeks to get the performance perfect, taking on too many students and gigs to pay the bills, and giving every ounce of yourself to ‘make it’. You can’t find the motivation or joy to show up to the practice room, to compose or to perform to showcase your skills. You fantasise about leaving this career because you think being a musician just isn’t working out for you… Together we will climb out of the trenches to discuss what is truly going on for you.

Music Performance Anxiety (MPA)

Does everyone think that you have it all together on stage, but if they had any idea how much you struggle with it all, they’d be shocked? No matter how much practice you did, you’re still convinced your performances won’t be ‘good enough’ and you’re going to ‘mess it up’ onstage? Your body shakes, your hands sweat, your mouth becomes dry and your musicality isn’t as reliable as you’d hoped? After the performance is over you thought you’d be relieved-- but instead you run through every single line in your head, worrying if your career will be on the line because of any mistakes. I am here to remind you that your being in the spotlight doesn’t have to be a debilitating experience—there is relief with therapy that is focused on easing music performance anxiety.
