Burnout
You’ve done ‘whatever it takes’ to be the best musician you can be. Working 80-hour weeks to get the performance perfect, taking on too many students and gigs to pay the bills, and giving every ounce of yourself to ‘make it’. You can’t find the motivation or joy to show up to the practice room, to compose or to perform to showcase your skills.
You fantasise about leaving this career because you think being a musician just isn’t working out for you…
I want you to know that you are not alone and leaving the field may not be the solution.
I believe therapy is a space to practice what it means to be human alongside the multiple hats you wear as a musician…
(You probably wear more than one hat in your music career, right?)
Raise your hand if….
You’re so tired of feeling suffocated unable to move forward but no matter how hard you try you can’t get yourself- or your musicality, unstuck. You’ve lost your ability to immerse yourself in music and feel pleasure when listening. Attending concerts ‘for fun’ now feels like more pressure of what you’re NOT doing. Your creativity feels crushed, you don’t feel ‘good enough’, you’ve tried so hard to ‘fit’ into the usual career path of a musician but you are starting to resent your art altogether.
Above all, you want to be able to share your music skills with the world. I know you want to feel excited and passionate about the work you do. You want to feel energised and full of enthusiasm on stage, in the studio and even with your students, too. But, your well of inspiration is dry, your energy has been low for a long time. Giving one more thing to anyone becomes overwhelming, and you’re starting to resent all that’s on your plate (even if at one time, you swear you loved it).
Burnout therapy involves exploring how you negotiate your current boundaries, finding other unexplored avenues in order to get the support you need (hello, self-care), or maybe even giving yourself permission to take a break from it all for a while.
I’ll help you turn inward and go deeper to unearth what you really desire your own musical path to look like in order to keep burnout at bay. We will focus on how to create practical tools for yourself in order to find joy in your life (and artistry) again. Together we will climb out of the trenches to discuss what is truly going on for you.
