Underconfidence and Low Self-Esteem
There is a reason why you have gotten to where you are today: Because you are driven, intelligent and a committed human who wants to share your art with the world.
You are the picture of success.
But on the inside? When you’re honest with yourself you actually feel like an imposter, even when you are super-qualified for the work you do. You feel like you’re never doing enough, achieving enough, being enough. Oh…and you’re tired of hearing “you’re too hard on yourself” from your nearest and dearest, too.
How often do you stop yourself from self-expression due to a fear of embarrassment or 'rocking the boat'?
Raise your hand if you…
- Experience imposter syndrome as your ‘default’ setting
- Struggle with your need for perfectionism
- Feel uncomfortable in your own skin, like you can’t be authentic with others
- Avoid stepping into the limelight — musically, or otherwise
- Find yourself being a ‘people pleaser’
- Get stuck when trying to make (musical and life) decisions
- Compare yourself with others in negative, unhealthy ways
- Find it hard to be yourself and give your opinion around your colleagues or peers
Self-esteem is established during childhood/ adolescence and reinforced with self-talk and daily habits into adulthood, so it takes time to praise and strengthen. All relationships begin with a solid foundation of knowing one another. It’s the same for your relationship with yourself. In therapy, you’ll get to know yourself through curiosity and reflection and I’ll help you to understand and name your emotions, needs, fears, and desires.
With newfound understanding, it will be easier to treat yourself with kindness and compassion. You’ll learn to give yourself grace for the flaws that make you human. In our work together, you will learn more about your unique self and gifts, and over time you will start recognising your worth and the good that is already inside of you.
We’ll team up against those critical voices armed with curiously and nurturing self-compassion. Overtime we will work on finding a new internal dialogue that it healthy and supportive. We will work to replace your self-criticism with self-acceptance.
I’ll remind you to approach challenges from a non-judgmental space, and over time you will stand firm in your all-knowing truth of who you are. It is my hope that you will become unshakeable in your self-worth.
Self-esteem therapy not only heals your relationship with yourself— but can bring forth musical output that will resonate with your body, mind and spirit (and what’s not to love about that?).
